New Antarctic penguins

A Gentoo penguin looks out from its 100,000-litre pool that is a constantly chilly seven degrees Celsius and an environment that includes a light cycle that changes to replicate the Antarctic seasons, with very short days in winter and very long days in summer, at the Melbourne Aquarium on December 7, 2009.  They are the fastest underwater swimming bird in the world and can reach up to 36 kilometres-per-hour as their bodies slip through the water and while they can sometimes look a little clumsy on land as they waddle through the snow, Gentoo penguins can out-run humans over short distances.  AFP PHOTO
