Now that the snow and ice are beginning to melt, the Gentoos will be squaring off over nest sites. There will be a great deal of staring at the ground over the next few weeks--staring at rocks and looking for the evidence of an egg.
Finally, they have a break from all that wicked, leftover winter weather and they can get down to the business of rearing chicks.
